In the novel Milkweed, by Jerry Spinelli, a young boy learns what it means to be trapped behind a wall. This young boy has no past that he can remember. He steals to stay alive and even has a few nicknames. Jew, Gypsy, Stopthief. He lived a life of luxury until he was put into the ghetto and everything changed. He had to make choices on how to keep his adopted family alive, himself included. Throughout this book, this little thief had to adapt to his surroundings and new religion to stay alive no matter what the circumstances. Reading this story is the only way to see if this little rascal will be able to save his own life.
